Yamaha U1

$6,950.00
sold out

Serial #5844797

Circa 1999

The Yamaha U1 is not only Yamaha’s most recognized upright piano, it’s the most well recognized upright piano in the world. Built in 1999, this U1 has seen very little play. All Mahogany and Walnut Yamaha's are custom ordered, take 6-12 months to arrive, and cost about 10% more than their ebony counterparts. So if you’re looking for a wood finish, this is a great opportunity to get into one at great price.

A note on Grey Market Yamaha’s and Kawai pianos:

You may be tempted by the inexpensive U1's which seem to be everywhere on Craigslist and eBay, but most of those are imported from Asia after 40-50 years of use, reconditioned, and sold in the US. Since the climate of origin is extremely humid, and these homes use mini-split air conditioners which are only turned on when the room is occupied, the average lifetime relative humidity is much higher in these instruments. When they are brought to the arid conditions of ari conditioned homes in the USA, Canada, and Australia where whole-home HVAC systems are used, they dry out and suffer from loose and wobbly action components, and structural failure of the soundboard and pin block. This is a problem in the Sacramento Valley, East Bay, etc. but not on the SF Peninsula.
